How it Works
UK India Diabetic Foot Foundation has brought together a large panel of diabetic foot experts from different specialities from around the world that include experienced Diabetologists, Podiatrists, Vascular surgeons, Orthopaedic surgeons, Plastic surgeons, General surgeons, Microbiologists and Orthotists to provide a free multi-disciplinary treatment advice to the doctors in India on all forms of diabetic foot presentations. Access to this expert panel is free, and the patient related information is treated with strict confidence. Medical photographs and all the investigations will be analysed by this specialist panel and an optimal multidisciplinary foot care plan both non-surgical and surgical is advised to the treating doctor. The foundation expert doctor panel will in addition provide training workshops and organise free medical camps on when need basis.
The process used for providing expert multidisciplinary advice is as follows:
Process used for providing expert multidisciplinary advice:
- A clinician in India comes across a diabetic foot patient (IP/OP) that would benefit from a multidisciplinary team (MDT) input and advice.
- Clinician performs the required examination, obtains clinical photographs, completes investigations and creates a clinical profile for the patient.
- The clinician uploads the clinical profile (currently by email), along with anonymized relevant clinical and radiological images and lab results and poses the treatment related questions to the panel via a secure digital platform.
- The digital platform provides the clinician with various video MDT session options to choose from and the clinician choses the most convenient time.
- The clinical panel will have the access to the clinical information and the relevant and available clinicians confirm their participation for the virtual MDT.
- The MDT members review the clinical material, join the virtual video MDT at the specified time, interact with the clinician and provide a joint MDT opinion on the patient management.
- The advice given by the MDT is an opinion only, based on the information provided, and the referring clinician will take the final decision on the patient management based on this advice.
- The MDT advice may range from a recommendation for further investigations, medical treatment, surgical procedure or a combination of these.
- The referring clinician will have an option to record, on the digital platform, the action taken based on the recommendations by the MDT.
- The referring clinician will have an option to record, on the digital platform, the clinical outcome of the patient and upload relevant clinical material.
